According to the author of the recent biography of Murdoch, this is unprecedented.  He predicted two nights ago on MSNBC that we would never see this because it had never happened previously.  Clearly, Murdoch is either frightened for his media holdings in this present climate (economic and political) or he’s changing his stripes. 

“Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted,” Murdoch writes. “As the chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages.
