When you have mush instead of a spine you can take responsibility for nothing at all

Drat!

No high-quality study done to date can document that having an abortion causes psychological distress, or a “post-abortion syndrome,” and efforts to show it does occur appear to be politically motivated, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore reviewed 21 studies involving more than 150,000 women and found the high-quality studies showed no significant differences in long-term mental health between women who choose to abort a pregnancy and others.

“The best research does not support the existence of a ‘post-abortion syndrome’ similar to post-traumatic stress disorder,” Dr. Robert Blum, who led the study published in the journal Contraception, said in a statement.

“Based on the best available evidence, emotional harm should not be a factor in abortion policy. If the goal is to help women, program and policy decisions should not distort science to advance political agendas,” added Vignetta Charles, a researcher and doctoral student at Johns Hopkins who worked on the study.  more here… http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081204/hl_nm/us_abortion_depression

We’re guessing that the fruitcake edge of the christian community won’t be donating to John Hopkins this term.

Raise your hands, those who are surprised…Bush isn’t going to stay on his “ranch”

First Lady Laura Bush and President George W. Bush are moving back to Dallas when the president’s term expires in January, the Associated Press is reporting.

The AP says the first lady’s press secretary confirmed Wednesday that the couple are purchasing a home in Dallas.

As I said earlier, Bush’s purchase of the ranch at Crawford in 1999 served the propaganda purpose of redrawing the man as a regular fella rather than the rich-brat, power and Washington connected, Yale attending elitist reality of the man’s past.  “Elite” is the nasty association to be avoided if you wish to play the populist card which is the top card – the absolutely necessary card – in the Republican deck.  So Bush was out “mending fences” and “clearing brush” for the photographers (all wonderfully satirized by Will Ferrill here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkqrI3IibYI )

Recall the FEMA director’s emails that were revealed after Katrina, including one from his press secretary, Sharon Worthy titled “Your Shirt” where she instructed him to roll up his shirt sleeves…

“Even the President rolled his sleeves to just below the elbow. In this crisis and on TV you just need to look more hard-working…ROLL UP THE SLEEVES!”

What a crowd of immoral bozos these people have been.

Meanwhile, back at the “shh about the priests” Vatican

Benedict’s envoy to the United Nations, Archbishop Celestino Migliore, has announced that the Vatican will oppose a proposed U.N. declaration calling for an end to discrimination against homosexuals. At first blush, no one should be surprised to find the Catholic Church hierarchy butting heads with gay rights activists. But this particular French-sponsored proposal, which has the backing of all 27 European Union countries, calls for an end to the practice of criminalizing and punishing people for their sexual orientation.  continue reading here… http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1863465,00.html

Gad.  What is it with these people?

Point one of them friggin’ lasers at Kudlow

There is no recession. Despite all the doom and gloom from the economic pessimistas, the resilient U.S economy continues moving ahead—quarter after quarter, year after year—defying dire forecasts and delivering positive growth. In fact, we are about to enter the seventh consecutive year of the Bush boom,” Larry Kudlow, Dec 2007

Friggin’ lasers

Andrew Sullivan write the perfect intro to a wonderful Wired piece…

Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow James Jay Carafano wants to use friggin’ lasers on the Somali pirates:

Less-potent lasers “would be effective for addressing a range of threats.” The weapons “could, for example, disable the engines of small boats.” Or they could “detonate shoulder-fired missiles before they strike their targets.” Or they could “trigger IEDs [improvised explosive devices] from a safe distance before they threaten passing convoys,” Carafano offers. Why, there’s practically nothing the ray guns can’t do.

Canada’s PM says bid to topple him is undemocratic

Well, it isn’t really, seeing as how the coalition partners hold many more parliamentary seats than the conservatives thus represent a much larger pool of voters.  But it is an odd turn of events, for sure.
